Cultural, Historic and Scenic Photo Friendly Tour Up to 8 Hours Featuring a variety of interesting tour content and attractions

If you are looking for a fulfilling touring day, then our Portmeirion, Snowdonia and Steam Train tour provides an action-packed day. Wales is famous for it’s great little steam trains which run through spectacular landscapes and we have selected the Welsh Highland Railway for your experience. The train takes you through a spectacular area of the Snowdonia National Park. One of the most unique tourist attractions in North Wales is the unusual Italianate village set on its own private peninsula. Portmeirion was made famous for being the setting for the 1960s cult TV series The Prisoner. A lifelong vision and project of architect Clough Williams-Ellis, who collected derelict buildings from all around Britain and reassembled them in a dramatic coastal location with landscaped gardens resembling a Mediterranean Italian village scene. Our touring route through the Snowdonia National Park takes you through a variety of scenic mountain passes and valleys, touring along the most beautiful picturesque and scenic roads. We will pass glacial lakes, mountain streams and make several photo stops for you to capture the stunning landscapes. We also stop off at one of the prettiest villages in Snowdonia, Beddgelert. During the day we also have several short walks which give you a real feel for the area that you are touring through, from a short coastal stroll taking in the lovely sea air, to taking a scenic riverside walk and of course strolling leisurely through the village of Portmeirion. Throughout your tour, we will introduce you to our rich heritage of history, our amazing culture and capture the most scenic locations with an abundance of wonderful photographic locations.

TOUR ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS

The Welsh Highland Railway
Take a ride on one of the ‘Great Little Steam Trains of Wales’! The journey takes you along the most scenic sections of the track in Wales, past the foot of Mount Snowdon and through the picture postcard village of Beddgelert and the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass. *Train ticket Payable
Criccieth Castle
We stop for photographs and a walk along the sea front promenade. Originally built by the Welsh Princes in the 13th century, Criccieth today is a scenic ruin overlooking the wide sweeping Cardigan Bay.
Portmeirion
Set on a scenic peninsula overlooking the River Dwyryd’s estuary. Portmeirion is a village built by the vision of a local architect with a unique collection of salvaged ruined buildings from many different parts of the country and reassembled with an Italian-influence that sets a scene similar to those found on Italy’s Mediterranean coast such as Portofino. *Entrance fee is £13 per person.

We allow time for lunch at Portmeirion and you have the choice of venues to suit. They do however offer a special arrangement with complimentary tickets to enter the village when you take a 2 course lunch at Castell Deudraeth which costs approximately £20 per person (not including sandwiches or light bites). Lunch must be booked and confirmed in advance.
Beddgelert
Rated as the most scenic village in the Snowdonia, where there is a beautiful riverside walk to enjoy and you can learn about the local legend of the village’s famous dog. You might like to consider stopping by one of the tea rooms/cafes or pubs for refreshments and a light bite to eat.
The most scenic road in Wales
Our tour takes us along one of the most scenic roads in Wales, where we pass lakes and small streams and we stop for some great photos of this are of Snowdonia.
Mount Snowdon
We stop on an elevated platform to view the highest Mountain in England and Wales at 3, 560 feet above sea level. The landscape of mountain and glacial valleys is a photographer’s paradise.
Slate Quarry
One of the surprises of the tour today is a visit to an impressive scenic abandoned Slate Quarry with a picturesque lagoon. Slate was an important part of the Welsh culture in the Snowdonia Mountains as we walk with a flat walk into the Quarry to learn about the story of slate.
Blade of the Giants
Enjoy this stunning lakeside setting with the ‘Sword in the Stone’.
The Secret View
Our last stop of the tour is at a beautiful lakeside setting. We call it the secret view as its out of sight to everyone passing along the two main roads nearby, yet we open up an amazing vista of a glacial lake and the Snowdonia Mountains.

This tour can be custom designed to include: Snowdon Mountain Railway: Take the easy way up to the summit. Attention to detail, in our opinion, makes the tour most memorable. You will definitely get that if you tour with John at Boutique Tours of Wales. He is professional, pleasant, and extremely knowledgeable. His driving is superb. We always felt very safe in his hands. His vehicle is top line, well maintained and so very comfortable.

John plans the excursions with your wishes in mind, adjusting for weather, your interests and comfort level. We could never have found the delightful, out of the way, locations that we enjoyed on our tours with him. He goes out of his way to make your day the best experience! Definitely top notch!!
