Our Anglesey and Snowdonia Tour provides a great contrast of coastal scenery of the island, with the magnificent mountain regions of the Snowdonia National Park. We’ll spend the morning on the island touring along the scenic Menai Straits. The coastal views don’t come any better where we witness the spectacular setting of the bridges and the fishing Isle, with a stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia Mountains. You can also choose to visit the famous town with the longest name in Wales, Britain and Europe. We take in the medieval history with a visit to Beaumaris Castle, said to be the best castle that was designed in medieval times. Our lunch stop is set in a beautiful secluded bay on the island, with an 18th century waterside inn.
Then in the afternoon, we take to the hills and mountains on the mainland, where we tour amongst the most magnificent scenery in the National Park. Our route takes us through the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. We have secret views and locations that present the most dramatic landscapes. Our tour will route us up into the mountains taking in three different scenic mountain passes and reach out along ‘the most scenic road in Wales,’ to view the summit of Mount Snowdon (distant views – subject to visibility). We exit the Snowdonia Mountains in another dramatic glacial valley, which is out of reach of the big tour buses. The landscape is breath taking as we follow a single-track road that was originally laid down by the Romans, passing through several sheep farms.
No tour to Wales would be complete without visiting the town with the longest name in Great Britain and Europe. It just happens to be on the Isle of Anglesey where we will stop for photographs of the famous railway station name and challenge you to our ‘famous competition!’
Enjoy one of the most scenic landscapes in the whole of Wales as you look down over the Menai Strait, with the famous suspension bridge, along with the fishing island and the magnificent backdrop of the Snowdonia and coastal mountains.
A spectacular waterside setting underneath the bridge. There is an option to enjoy a short walk along the edge of the Menai Strait to wander along the ‘Belgium’ promontory and to discover the 6th century church of St Tysilio on ‘Church Island’.
Beaumaris Castle is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you can discover the last hurrah of King Edward 1st massive medieval castle building programme in North Wales. It is claimed to be the best castle ever built in the medieval period, but never finished! *Entrance Fee Payable.
One of our specially selected venues for a lunch stop is a beautiful 18th century country inn, nestling in the corner of a picturesque, secluded bay and it’s always a big hit with our international visitors! Please Note: This stop is dependent on the time taken to reach the inn and the opening times for dining.
We drive out to an elevation on the slate mountain for our second short walk of the day. Here you will get to witness the harsh conditions of working life on the side of the mountain, whilst taking in some of the best scenic landscapes of the whole touring day. This short walk is around 45 minutes in duration and is fairly gentle in the slope, walking on cut rock tracks, with uneven surfaces.
A beautiful glacial lakeside setting, which we call ‘the secret view of Snowdonia’ as it is out of sight to the majority of visitors to the National Park, who pass nearby using the two main roads and this view is out of sight as they travel past!
Enjoy this stunning lakeside setting with the ‘Sword in the Stone’. We have many Arthurian legends in the mountains and the Sword in Stone provides a link to one of the great legends of Excalibur being thrown back to the lady of the lake!
Guarding the entrance to the mountains, Dolbadarn Castle was one of the key castles built by the Welsh Princes’s of Gwynedd to defend their kingdom. The setting is spectacular, overlooking two glacial lakes and sitting at the foot of the lower slopes of Mount Snowdon. Please note: To access the castle site involves a climb up a very steep grass embankment along with uneven steps, cut into the rock face. The site is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.
Enjoy the beauty of the mountains and valleys with their stunning lakes. Our route takes us up into the mountains through a former glacial field, as we tour through three different scenic mountain passes.
We stop on an elevated platform to view the highest Mountain in Wales at 3,560 feet above sea level. The scenic landscapes of mountain and glacial valleys is a photographer’s paradise with another view of a glacial lake in the Nant Gwynant Valley, overlooking traditional Welsh sheep farms.
Our touring route progresses as go onto tour by a set of twin glacial lakes, where there is an optional stop for photographs, before reaching a third lake, for another short stop, prior to entering another breath taking scenic glacial valley.
WALKING IN THE SNOWDONIA MOUNTAINS
For those who aspire a quality short hike or walk and freedom in their touring day, there are two options for short walks in National Park.
We can offer a short linear walk through the valley of Sheep Farms along a tarmac trail, surrounded by stunning mountain landscapes. The walk can vary from 30 minutes to an hours duration.
Alternatively, if you a feeling a little more adventurous, you could take to walking the Cwm Idwal trail. You walk out independently and climb up to the ‘CWM’ – hanging valley, for one of the great featured walks in the National Park mountains. This walk is strenuous in places and involves in walking on uneven stones placed in boggy areas of the mountain. There is some scrambling through glacial debris(boulders) at the far end of the stunning Llyn Idwal and the walk takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
A third walking option for the day can involve a short hike along a good pathway as you climb from the valley floor up to the stunning Aber Falls Waterfall. This walk is approximately 2 hours in duration
